CHANDIGARH, Aug. 23 — The Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) on Saturday felicitated its secretary general, Charanjit Singh Virk, after he was elected as a member of the executive committee of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Virk won 36 out of 66 votes polled during the federation’s annual general meeting and elections held in Delhi NCR, officials said.
A former boxer himself, Virk took charge as secretary general of CABA in September 2023. In his playing career during the early 1980s, he represented India at international competitions and won several medals, including gold at the All India Inter Universities Boxing Championships.
He has also served as a delegate of the BFI at the Paris Olympics in 2024, representing India at the global level.
CABA Chairman Dr. C.K. Jerath welcomed Virk’s election, noting its significance for Chandigarh’s boxing community. “It’s after several years the CABA is getting an elected position in the national federation,” Jerath said.
Officials and members of the association said the development is expected to give a boost to Chandigarh’s presence in the national boxing circuit.
