Patna, October 20: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday announced its list of 143 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections, with five of them set to contest against nominees of other constituents of the INDIA bloc. The announcement came just hours before the deadline for filing nomination papers for the second and final phase.
The list ruled out earlier speculation that RJD would contest the Kutumba seat, currently held by state Congress president Rajesh Kumar Ram, which could have led to a direct face-off between two allies.
However, the party will compete against the Congress in Vaishali, Lalganj, and Kahalgaon constituencies. It will also take on Mukesh Sahni’s Vikassheel Insan Party in Tarapur and Gaura Boram.
The move reflects RJD’s strategy to balance alliance politics with local electoral calculations ahead of the polls, which are being keenly watched across the state.
