Jalandhar, October 29: A resident of Jalandhar, Harminder Singh, has sought urgent help from the Indian government, claiming he was misled into joining the Russian army and is now stranded near the Russia-Ukraine warfront.
In a video message circulating on social media, Harminder appears frightened and pleads for assistance. “I was told I would get a job as a construction worker, but they forced me to join the army and sent me to the border. I want to return home. My life is in danger,” he said.
According to his family, Harminder travelled to Russia in June on a tourist visa after being promised work opportunities. His brother, Gurminder Singh, said the family has been in shock since learning of his situation. “He went abroad to earn for us but was deceived. We urge the Indian government to bring him back safely,” he told reporters.
The incident adds to a growing number of cases involving Indian nationals trapped in Russia after being allegedly duped by agents under the pretext of job offers.
