CHANDIGARH, November 19: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday said recent incidents of violence in the state called for a calm and coordinated response from the authorities.
Warring said the pattern of attacks appearing to target individuals from particular organisations was a matter of concern and encouraged state agencies to address the issue promptly. He said any attempt by criminal groups to justify violent acts by invoking religious explanations could create unnecessary misunderstanding.
Citing the killing of RSS volunteer Naveen Arora in Ferozepur and an earlier attack on a Shiv Sena leader, he said such incidents should be investigated thoroughly, with a focus on maintaining public confidence. “Punjab’s strength has always been its sense of harmony,” he said, adding that safeguarding that environment should remain a priority.
He also said a clear public position from the government would help strengthen the sense of security among citizens.
Warring emphasised that preventing any rise in tension was essential for the state. “Punjab has already seen difficult periods in the past, and no one wishes for situations that cause distress to return,” he said.
