Ropar, Dec 2: A 64-year-old physically disabled trader escaped a kidnapping attempt in Nangal on Monday evening after the suspects’ vehicle rammed into a roadside pole, police said. An FIR has been registered under Sections 140(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Nangal police station.
The accused were identified as Anesh of Killa Rehmadgarh in Malerkotla and Vishal Kumar of Bhabhor Sahib village near Nangal, both wrestlers who had come to the town for a competition. Police said the duo was drunk when they allegedly attempted the abduction. “Preliminary investigation shows the suspects were under the influence of liquor,” an officer directly said.
According to the FIR, complainant Gulshan Rai said the youths offered him a lift while he was walking. “I trusted them and got into the car, but they tried to kidnap me and demanded money,” Rai said. The car sped towards the Himachal border before the driver allegedly lost control and hit a pole, leaving one of the suspects semi-conscious.
Rai managed to flee to the nearby market and alerted residents. Locals rushed back to the crash site and handed over the accused to police. The second suspect, who had fled after the collision, was later arrested.
