Four Killed After Wrong-Way Truck Overturns on NH-44

by TheReportingTimes

Karnal, December 3 — A truck driving against the flow of traffic on NH-44 caused a chain collision that left four people dead near Gharaunda on Wednesday, police said.

The truck, speeding toward Delhi, climbed onto the wrong carriageway and rammed into an Amritsar-bound Punjab Roadways bus before overturning. The overturned truck crushed a Maruti Ciaz and two motorcycles.

“It was a wrong-side entry at high speed. The truck toppled immediately after the impact,” a police officer said.

The motorcyclists were identified as Gharaunda residents Sanjeev Kumar and Vishal Kumar. Police said the two people travelling in the Ciaz died instantly and were yet to be identified.

The truck driver and his helper sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Karnal Civil Hospital. “We are trying to stabilise them,” a doctor said.

Passengers on the bus escaped without injuries, police added.
