Greenfield Project Missed Three Deadlines Before Breakthrough

by TheReportingTimes

MOHALI, Dec. 5 — Mohali’s 31-km Greenfield corridor, part of the Centre’s Bharatmala Pariyojana, is nearing completion after multiple delays triggered by landowners’ demands near the Banjeri toll plaza.

The project was originally set to open in June, then September, and most recently December 1. But landowners and farmer union members blocked access for over a week, insisting on a dedicated entry and exit near the plaza. The National Highways Authority of India said the demand could not be accommodated without altering the approved design.

Talks remained stalled until Tuesday, when protesters withdrew, allowing the administration to move toward opening the road.

The Greenfield stretch connects IT Chowk (PR-7) near Chandigarh International Airport to the Kurali–Chandigarh Road. It is being built by a Maharashtra-based firm awarded the contract in October 2022.

The ₹1,400-crore project includes ₹700 crore for land compensation and ₹700 crore for construction. Officials said one toll plaza has been completed and the toll amount will be fixed before opening.
