Chandigarh, Dec 7: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) is set to reopen bidding for the city’s 52 public fountains, aiming to raise more than ₹10 crore through advertisements. Previous tenders, floated twice over four months, failed to attract bidders.
The initial tenders limited ad space to inside fountains, deterring participants. Mayor Harpreet Babla said the new approach should yield better results. “The terms have been amended. With wider display options, we expect the fresh bidding to be highly successful,” he said.
The revised tender allows advertisements outside fountains and gardens and requires the successful bidder to maintain both the fountains and surrounding greenery. Ads may also carry messages for the public, following the corporation’s advertisement control norms.
Fountains included in the tender are at Zakir Hussain Rose Garden (Sector 16), Nehru Park (Sector 22), Sector 17 Plaza, and other major parks. The MC first introduced a revenue-based model in August, granting ad and licensing rights in exchange for fountain maintenance. Following the unsuccessful bids, senior officials tasked the officer on special duty (OSD) with reviewing and updating the tender.
