Phagwara, Dec 27: A Punjab Roadways bus collided with a truck on National Highway 44 near Phagwara on Saturday, injuring the driver and disrupting traffic on the busy route, police said.
The accident took place near Royal King resort amid dense fog, which significantly reduced visibility, officials said. Passengers travelling on the bus suffered only minor injuries and were reported to be out of danger.
“The driver sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment,” a police officer said. “All passengers are safe.”
According to officials, the bus was heading from the Jalandhar side, while the truck was en route to Anandpur Sahib.
The collision caused traffic congestion, with vehicles stranded for several hours on the highway.
Road Safety Force in-charge Makhan Singh said authorities acted swiftly to ease the situation. “A crane was deployed to remove the bus from the road, following which traffic was gradually restored,” he said.
Police have advised motorists to exercise caution while driving in foggy conditions, especially during early morning hours.
