Haryana Police told to act tough on corruption, missing girls cases

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Jan 3 — Terming cases of missing girls a matter of utmost priority, Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal on Friday directed all districts to form special teams and prepare detailed data to trace them without delay.

Addressing senior officers during his first statewide review meeting, held via video conferencing, Singhal said efforts to locate missing girls must be carried out with urgency and sensitivity. “This work has to be done promptly and with complete care,” he said.

The DGP also warned that misconduct by a handful of personnel damages the credibility of the entire force. “The image of the police department is tarnished due to a few corrupt officers and employees,” he said, adding that strict action would follow in such cases.

The three-hour meeting was attended by police commissioners, range IGs, district SPs, STF officers and other personnel, with participation running into nearly 700 officials across the state.

Singhal reviewed the ground situation district by district and asked officers to identify major law and order concerns in their jurisdictions. He instructed them to submit time-bound action plans within two days in a prescribed format already shared with them.

The plans will focus on crime control, traffic congestion, illegal liquor trade, narcotics, cybercrime, extortion cases, security arrangements and other crime-prone issues. “Every district has its own set of challenges, and the response should reflect that reality,” Singhal said.

The DGP also called for increased vigilance against illegal weapons at roadside eateries, gang activity, property-related crimes and drug trafficking. He stressed the need to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve technical skills and promote proactive policing at the field level.

Referring to the state government’s expectations, Singhal said Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini wants a strong work culture within the police force. “The Chief Minister has assured full backing to the police to act firmly against crime so that officers can discharge their duties without fear,” he said.
