Raghav Chadha applauds removal of unrealistic delivery promises

New Delhi/Chandigarh, Jan 13: The decision by delivery aggregators to drop 10-minute delivery guarantees has been met with appreciation from AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who termed the move a much-needed step for road safety.

The implementation comes after Chadha and other advocates pressured the government to address the “pain and misery” of the quick-commerce workforce.

In a statement released Tuesday, Chadha thanked the citizens who supported the campaign for rider safety, noting that the collective effort stood on the side of human life and dignity. He mentioned that the removal of these deadlines would protect not only the delivery riders but everyone who shares the roads.

“Behind every 10-minute delivery is a worker riding in rain, heat and traffic under extreme pressure,” Chadha said.

He noted that the unrealistic expectations of the 10-minute model often led to riders taking unnecessary risks. By removing the branding from jackets, bags, and apps, the government has signaled that speed cannot be prioritized over worker well-being.

The lawmaker also addressed the gig workers directly, assuring them that they are no longer alone in their struggle for fair treatment.

He noted that the new legal landscape, specifically the Code on Social Security, now ensures workers are eligible for health and maternity benefits, disability cover, and old-age protection.

The new framework includes a Social Security Fund and a National Social Security Board to oversee welfare schemes.

Chadha noted that these measures, combined with the removal of strict delivery timelines, represent a significant shift toward a more ethical app-based economy.
