Sirhind, Jan 24: Investigations are underway following a late-night explosion that targeted the railway infrastructure near Sirhind, causing an engine derailment and injuring a railway employee. The blast, which occurred near Pole Number 1208, damaged nearly 600 meters of the track on the busy Delhi-Amritsar route. The freight train driver, Anil Sharma, is receiving medical care and is reported to be in stable condition.
Railway and police officials reached the spot shortly after the incident to oversee repair work and security protocols. Forensic teams have been deployed to collect samples from the crater and the damaged rails to determine the type of material used. The prompt response from the railway department ensured that the track was repaired and reopened for traffic with minimal delay to the schedule.
Local authorities have registered a case against unknown persons as they analyze the technical evidence. The timing of the incident has prompted a high alert in the district, though officials cautioned against speculation regarding the motives behind the act.
“The driver of a goods train was injured in the incident and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment,” DIG Ropar Range Nanak Singh said. He mentioned that the railway track and the surrounding area have been inspected, while forensic and other technical teams are also collecting evidence.
The police administration and railway security forces are currently monitoring the situation through increased patrolling. Information regarding the perpetrators will be shared once the forensic analysis and ground reports are finalized.
“Official information about the cause of the blast and those responsible will be released only after the investigation is completed,” the DIG said.
