Baramati, Jan 29: The mortal remains of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will be consigned to the flames with full state honours on Thursday in his home turf of Baramati. The veteran leader, who was 66, tragically lost his life in a recent plane crash. A significant gathering of national and state leaders has converged on the town to pay their final respects to the influential political figure.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari arrived in Baramati early this morning to join the grieving family and supporters. They were accompanied by BJP chief Nitin Nabin as the state prepared for the final transition of power’s local icon. The funeral ceremony is scheduled to take place at the sports ground of Vidya Pratishthan, an institution closely associated with the Pawar family’s legacy in the region.
A senior administrative official overseeing the arrangements confirmed the protocols for the day. “The administration has ensured all state honours are accorded to the Deputy Chief Minister as per official procedure,” the official mentioned during the preparations at the venue.
Before reaching the cremation site, the mortal remains, draped in the national flag, were taken to Katewadi village. This followed an overnight stay at the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Hospital in Baramati. The procession from the village back to the main town saw thousands of supporters lining the streets to catch a final glimpse of their leader.
