Jalandhar, Feb 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the Adampur airport and visited Dera Sachkhand Ballan Sunday to mark the 649th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. The visit underscores the cultural and social significance of the Jalandhar-based dera, which remains a vital institution for the Ravidassia community.
Addressing the devotees, the Prime Minister spoke of the spiritual bond between his constituency and the state of Punjab. He noted that the teachings of the social reformer and poet continue to guide the nation’s vision for the future.
“Mein Punjab di iss dharti nu naman karda haan,” the Prime Minister said as he greeted the public on the auspicious day of Magh Purnima.
Modi linked his service as the Member of Parliament for Varanasi to the saint’s legacy, as the holy city is the birthplace of Guru Ravidas. He shared his gratitude for the support he has received from the people of his constituency over the years.
“People of Varanasi gave me blessings and I got the opportunity to also serve the place as an MP from there,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s presence at the dera comes shortly after the Union government honored Sant Niranjan Dass with the Padma Shri. Modi spoke about the institution’s role in fostering social harmony and its contributions to the welfare of the people in the region.
“In sphere of social service, works of Dera Sachkhand Ballan have been praiseworthy,” the Prime Minister said.
He further linked these spiritual foundations to the country’s broader goals of development and self-reliance. He said that the path shown by the saint remains essential for national growth.
“With the blessings of Sant Ravidas, I am confident that we will achieve the target of Viksit Bharat,” he said.
The visit included the formal unveiling of the Shri Guru Ravidass Maharaj Ji Airport name at Adampur. Additionally, the Prime Minister used the occasion to virtually inaugurate the civil terminal building at Halwara airport, marking a significant step for local infrastructure.
