Chandigarh, July 8: The Punjab Police administration has shifted Tanda Police Station SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra to Police Lines after an FBI investigation linked him to a major international extortion scheme. According to official details posted on the Los Angeles webpage of the American agency, the inspector allegedly attempted to squeeze $400,000 from a family living in the United States by holding a false murder accusation over them. High-ranking regional officers confirmed that a thorough independent investigation has been assigned to a neighboring district command to verify the claims.

The department initiated the administrative shift immediately after confirming the multimedia statements released by overseas investigators. DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla declared that the investigation will be handled with high urgency.

“We too got to know of it from the FBI’s Los Angeles webpage. The SHO has been transferred to Police Lines. To ensure a fair probe, the inquiry has been marked outside Hoshiarpur. I have asked SP (D) Jalandhar Vineet Ahlawat to investigate the matter and report to the department as soon as possible.”

The severe nature of the cross-border allegations drew sharp criticism from opposition assembly members who noted the unprecedented nature of an American federal agency targeting a local station chief. Congress leader Sukhpal Khaira declared that the ongoing legal actions represent a significant challenge to the credibility of the regional police department.

“The filing of chargesheet against Punjab Police officer for extortion of US $4,00,000 has come as a big blot and question mark on the functioning of Punjab Police.”

The sentiment was shared across party lines as alternative political factions noted the unusual alignment of a state officer falling under the same international tracking typically reserved for high-profile fugitives. SAD representative Bikram Majithia asserted that the global attention brings unwanted scrutiny to the entire organization.

“Just as the FBI sought the extradition of Goldy Brar, Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, a Punjab Police officer has now also come under the FBI’s scanner. The Punjab Police, once known for its reputation, has today become a symbol of global embarrassment.”
