Kapurthala, Feb 4: Shamsher Singh, the father of fugitive Goldy Brar, was moved to Kapurthala jail on Wednesday after being discharged from a private hospital in Bathinda. The former police official had been undergoing treatment for health complications related to a cyst since Sunday.
The transfer follows his arrest alongside his wife, Pritpal Kaur, in Amritsar late last month. The couple is allegedly involved in a 2024 extortion case registered in Muktsar. While Singh was initially intended for judicial custody following a police remand, his medical condition necessitated a detour to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot before his admission to the private facility in Bathinda.
Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana confirmed the movement, noting that Singh was being escorted directly to the Kapurthala facility.
“Shamsher was being taken to the Kapurthala jail following his discharge from the hospital,” Rana mentioned.
Authorities decided against lodging Singh in the Muktsar district jail, where his wife is currently held, due to significant security risks. Sources noted that members of the rival Bambiha gang are currently housed in the Muktsar facility, making it unsafe for Singh. Before his compulsory retirement in 2021, Singh served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Punjab Police.
