Chandigarh, July 3: The decision of the Congress high command to keep Amrinder Singh Raja Warring at the helm of the state unit has triggered widespread resentment among senior leaders and former lawmakers. Disgruntled party workers assembled in large numbers at the Chamkaur Sahib home of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to voice their grievances. The spontaneous gathering has disrupted the party’s efforts to project a unified front to the public just before the state heads to the polls.
Attendees at the meeting maintained that Channi possesses the mass appeal required to unite various sections of society under the party banner. Former ministers Bharat Bhushan Ashu and OP Soni were among the prominent figures who traveled to Chamkaur Sahib to show solidarity. Reflecting the sentiment of the gathering, the senior leaders affirmed, “We have come to meet Channi and will continue to follow his directions regarding the party’s future course.”
Many local leaders and former MLAs expressed the view that the central leadership’s announcement has deeply disappointed the party cadre. They maintained that Channi remains the strongest mass leader in the state and that appointing him to the top organizational post would have strengthened their campaign. The group openly called upon the high command to reconsider the recent appointments to prevent further internal divisions.
Channi chose to observe the developments without making an immediate press statement, though insiders confirmed he would speak directly to the gathering in the evening. The evolving situation leaves the Congress leadership with the critical task of managing internal dissent to prevent structural damage ahead of the crucial Assembly elections.
