Ludhiana, Feb 8: Ludhiana police arrested a man and his two associates after they allegedly assaulted traffic personnel and posed as Vigilance Bureau officials at Mundian Kalan Chowk. The incident occurred on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road when a Tata Indigo was flagged down for lacking a high-security registration plate.

The driver, identified as Raj Kumar Khatri, reportedly became aggressive when officials asked for the vehicle’s documentation. According to the police report, Khatri claimed to hold a senior position within the Vigilance Department to avoid scrutiny. The situation escalated into a physical altercation when the on-duty officers requested proof of his identity.

“The accused manhandled me and broke the top two buttons of my uniform,” said ASI Dalip Kumar, who was leading the routine check. The officer noted that the suspects also targeted other team members who stepped in to assist. “Other policemen who came to intervene were also assaulted and attempts were made to tear their uniform as well,” the ASI added.

Following the scuffle, the trio attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle. However, the traffic wing coordinated quickly to intercept the car at the subsequent intersection. All three individuals were taken into custody after being surrounded by backup teams.

The police mentioned that the accused issued various threats while attempting to escape. “The accused not only obstructed official duty but also openly insulted the police uniform and attempted to escape while issuing threats,” ASI Kumar said. A formal case has been registered regarding the obstruction of a public servant and personation of a public officer.
