Chandigarh, August 4: The Punjab Government requested the Ministry of External Affairs to engage with Canadian counterparts through official channels to address concerns over post-graduation work permits for Indian students.
Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak affirmed that international diplomatic efforts by the Centre remain essential to securing a resolution for students who finished their credentials at Portage College in Brampton.
Describing the hardship faced by the scholars protesting outdoors during heavy rains, Kataruchak maintained, “Students forced to set up tents on the streets amid heavy rainfall; widespread anger among families in Punjab.”
The Minister asserted that families throughout the state are watching the developments closely while awaiting measures to safeguard the career prospects of their children.
Underscoring the scope of official responsibilities, Kataruchak asserted, “The authority to engage in international diplomatic dialogue rests with the Central Government.” He added that concerted efforts through bilateral channels could effectively safeguard the interests and future of the affected scholars.
