CHANDIGARH, Feb 8 — The Academy of Cardiac Interventions, London, has elected Dr Rakesh Kumar Jaswal as an Andreas Gruentzig Fellow for the year 2026. This international recognition highlights the proficiency and long-standing contribution of the Mohali-based specialist to the global interventional cardiology landscape.

The fellowship, named after the father of modern interventional cardiology, Andreas Gruentzig, is specifically awarded to clinicians with extensive experience. According to the academy, the honour is intended for those with more than 16 years of proficiency who have successfully demonstrated exceptional expertise in cardiac interventions.

Dr Jaswal expressed his gratitude for the selection, emphasizing that the fellowship is a testament to the high standards of practice followed in the region. His work in complex coronary interventions, including high-risk stenting and rotablation, has previously earned him international acclaim at conferences in San Francisco and Washington.

An alumnus of PGIMER Chandigarh, Dr Jaswal has been a pioneer in the trans-radial technique, which has significantly improved recovery times for heart patients. This latest fellowship from the London-based academy joins a series of national and international honours received by the veteran doctor for his contributions to healthcare.
