Ludhiana, July 28: Government primary infrastructure in Ludhiana received a major boost on Monday with the opening of the Vardhman Block at Government Primary School, Lohara. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led the inauguration of the ₹5 crore building, pointing to expanded facilities and competitive examination results as proof of systemic progress in Punjab’s public schools.
The project, funded entirely by Vardhman Textiles Group, adds 18 classrooms and three administrative rooms to the Lohara school complex. The company has previously assisted in constructing facilities across several regional government schools, including locations in Giaspura, Kasabad, Ladowal, and Sekhewal.
Addressing attendees at the school, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed that expanding access to quality learning remains central to state policy.
“Education is the most powerful tool to eliminate poverty and transform society,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann declared. “The Vardhman Textiles Group has been making a significant contribution towards strengthening educational infrastructure, particularly in government schools. No freebie or concession can eliminate poverty or other social maladies in the state, but education is the key that can pull people out of this vicious circle by raising their standard of living.”
Mann cited updated data from NITI Aayog indicating that state investments in smart classrooms and teacher training programs have elevated Punjab above previously leading regions.
“Punjab has surpassed Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi to secure the number one position in primary and middle-school education,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed. “Earlier Kerala held the top position, but now Punjab has claimed the number one rank with a huge margin. More such efforts will be made in the coming time too.”
The Chief Minister linked institutional upgrades to concrete outcomes in competitive testing across the state, pointing to public school success rates in NEET, JEE, and state talent assessments.
“This new block has been constructed at a cost of ₹5 crore,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated. “As many as 146 students qualified the NEET examination, 33 students qualified the JEE Main examination, nine students qualified the JEE Advanced examination and 47 students qualified the PSTSE. Education is the light that illuminates the world by dispelling darkness, due to which the state government is laying special thrust on it.”
