Patiala, Feb 9: Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill officially assumed his role as the Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University in Patiala on Monday. The appointment, made by the Punjab government, was marked by a formal ceremony at the university’s Mall Road office, attended by various political and cultural figures.

During the event, Dr. Gill expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and detailed his vision for the institution. He noted that the university would play a pivotal role in the state’s broader social goals by using sports as a tool for positive change.

“The Sports University will contribute to eradicating the menace of drug abuse by promoting sports and empowering athletes,” Dr. Gill mentioned.

The transition was attended by Patiala MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and artist Karamjit Anmol, who both noted that the university is expected to achieve new milestones under Dr. Gill’s academic and athletic expertise. Dr. Gill, a former athlete himself, assured that the university would align with the government’s initiative to develop sports infrastructure in rural areas.

“I will leave no stone unturned to take Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University to new heights and will live up to the trust placed in me,” the Vice-Chancellor directly said.

The ceremony also saw participation from senior cabinet members in spirit, as Dr. Gill noted that Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh have pledged their full support for the university’s upcoming projects.
