Ambala, Feb 12: A 24-year-old woman lost her life in Ambala late Wednesday night after a car driven by a Haryana Police head constable allegedly struck the e-rickshaw she was traveling in. The victim, identified as Nikita Bajaj, was a resident of Ambala who worked in Gurugram and had just arrived home for a visit before the fatal collision occurred.
The incident took place while Nikita was traveling from Ambala Cantonment toward Ambala City with her brother and other passengers. Ravinder Singh, the driver of the e-rickshaw, noted that the vehicle was carrying four passengers when it was hit with significant force from the rear. The impact of the collision threw Nikita onto the road, where she was subsequently crushed by the car.
“I was traveling from Ambala Cantonment to Ambala City with four passengers when the e-rickshaw was hit from the rear. The impact caused Nikita to fall out of the vehicle,” the driver stated while recounting the sequence of events.
Local residents and relatives who were present at the scene apprehended the driver immediately and handed him over to the authorities. Family members of the deceased have alleged that the policeman was in an inebriated state at the time of the crash. They mentioned that the officer’s negligence and the speed of the vehicle were the primary causes of the tragedy.
Following the accident, Nikita was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ambala City, but medical staff declared her dead upon arrival. The news of her death led to a large gathering of protesters at the hospital, where locals demanded strict action and the immediate release of the accused’s medical report to verify the claims of intoxication.
Police officials have stated that the matter is currently under active investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. They mentioned that security was tightened around the hospital premises to maintain order as they worked to pacify the grieving family members.
