Bhilal, Feb 24: Seven people participated in a ‘homecoming’ ceremony at a Bhilai Gurdwara today, formally returning to the Sikh religion after having converted to other faiths in previous years. The event, held at the Baba Deep Singh Shaheed Gurudwara, was conducted under the auspices of the Sikh Youth Service Committee and the Chhattisgarh Sikh Panchayat.
Leaders of the initiative affirmed that the returning individuals were motivated by the core tenets of the Sikh faith and its commitment to social service. It was noted during the ceremony that their prior conversions had been the result of family pressures or various allurements.
Inderjit Singh Chhotu, who heads the organizing committee, stated that his team would make every effort to reach out to others who have left the faith. He asserted that the support of the Sikh community would be mobilized to ensure that those returning are provided with the help they require to reintegrate effectively.
“All possible efforts would be made to ensure the homecoming of all Sikhs who have converted in the past,” Chhotu declared, emphasizing that the mission focuses on both spiritual and humanitarian support.
The ceremony was marked by traditional prayers and the reading of the Hukamnama. Officials from the Sikh Panchayat, including Gurnam Singh and Malkeet Singh, confirmed that the seven individuals were honored with Siropas to signify their re-entry into the community. The event saw a large gathering of local residents and community leaders, including Bibi Kulwant Kaur and Tajinder Singh.
Representatives from all local Gurdwara management committees were present, expressing their approval of the initiative. The organizers maintained that such programs are essential for preserving the community’s heritage while providing a platform for those who wish to reconnect with their original religious identity.
