Chennai, Feb 27: A petition for divorce has been filed by Sangeeta Sornalingam against her husband, the prominent actor and TVK president Vijay, marking a significant turn in their quarter-century-long marriage. The matter was brought before the Chengalpattu family court, with the petitioner citing specific grievances under the Special Marriage Act.
The legal filing declared that the marriage had been strained by an ongoing relationship between the actor and a female co-star. Sangeeta affirmed in the petition that she first discovered the involvement in 2021. She asserted that the lack of remorse and the continuation of the relationship, despite earlier promises to end it, necessitated the legal separation.
Legal representatives for the petitioner noted that the grounds for the filing include provisions for divorce when a spouse is treated with cruelty or involved in adultery. The court is currently reviewing the claims, though a final determination on the matter has yet to be reached.
The timing of the filing is notable as Vijay pivots toward a political career with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. His farewell film, “Jana Nayagan,” is currently facing hurdles with the censor board, delaying its theatrical debut. Supporters of the actor and political observers are closely watching both the personal and professional developments as he prepares for the state elections.
