Ottawa, March 16: A display of sacrifice and remembrance, Gagandeep Samra and her daughter Ruhbani have donated their hair to assist those undergoing cancer treatment. The gesture was timed to coincide with the birthday of Gagandeep’s father, who lost his life to the illness, according to a report featured by CanadaHelps.
The act is particularly notable given the family’s adherence to Sikh traditions, where hair is typically left natural and uncut. This practice represents one of the Five Ks of the Khalsa, signifying a physical and spiritual commitment to the faith. By choosing to donate, the duo sought to provide comfort to others facing the same struggles their family member once endured.
Gagandeep declared that the family wanted to celebrate her father’s life through a meaningful action. She asserted that the decision was rooted in a desire to give back to the cancer community in his name.
While the process was initially difficult for Ruhbani, her mother noted that the young girl found strength in the cause. Gagandeep stated that understanding how their hair would be used to help others allowed Ruhbani to process the emotional weight of the moment.
