Beijing, March 16: To strengthen its South Asian linguistic offerings, Beijing Foreign Studies University has formally introduced Punjabi as a foreign language course. The university recruited Professor Zameerpal Kaur Sandhu Bajwa to lead the department and establish a foundation for Punjabi studies in the Chinese capital.

Professor Bajwa, who previously served as the Dean of the School of Language, Literature, and Culture at the Central University of Punjab, noted that the curriculum will bridge cultural gaps. She asserted that the program will cover the historical context of the Punjab region alongside traditional language lessons.

The university declared that Punjabi has become the 102nd language offered at the campus. BFSU officials maintained that these courses are vital for diplomats and students who require specialized communication skills for international relations.

“I will also be training Chinese teachers to ensure the Punjabi language program remains sustainable,” Professor Bajwa stated regarding her long-term goals at the university.

The inclusion of Punjabi follows the university’s established programs in Hindi, Urdu, and Tamil. Observers in the academic community asserted that this development reflects a growing interest in the cultural and historical significance of the Punjab region within China’s premier foreign studies environment.
