Kanwardeep Kaur to remain Chandigarh SSP following federal approval

Prime Minister-led committee clears extension for Punjab cadre officer

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 17: Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur has received a formal one-year extension to her deputation, according to a recent order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The decision ensures that the 2013-batch Punjab cadre officer will continue to lead the Union Territory’s police operations through March 2027.

The extension follows a swift administrative process involving both the Punjab state government and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Officials noted that the Punjab government provided a no-objection certificate for the move, which was subsequently recommended by the UT Administrator to the central government.

“The ACC has approved the Ministry of Home Affairs proposal for extension of inter-cadre deputation,” the official order affirmed. This confirmation ends the brief period of uncertainty following the expiration of her initial three-year term earlier this month.

Before her current assignment in Chandigarh, the 37-year-old officer held several high-profile positions across Punjab, including serving as the first SSP of the Malerkotla district. Her background includes deep local ties, having attended school in Chandigarh and Mohali before pursuing her engineering degree.

The Ministry of Personnel addressed the extension order to the Union Home Secretary, with notification provided to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Secretariat. Kaur’s uninterrupted service remains a key point of stability for the Chandigarh Police Department as she continues her second year in the top post.
