Collision Near Markapuram Leaves 14 Dead

Private bus traveling from Telangana catches fire after hitting gravel truck

Markapuram, March 26: A fiery highway collision involving a private bus and a gravel-loaded tipper lorry claimed 14 lives in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district on Thursday. The incident left 23 additional passengers injured, many of whom were transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

The vehicle was en route from Jagityal to Kaligiri when it struck the lorry, causing an immediate fire that engulfed the cabin. Markapuram Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju maintained that 14 people died in the accident and 23 injured persons have been shifted to the hospital. He declared that authorities are working to gather complete details of the incident as the investigation continues.

Medical officials noted that both the bus driver and the tipper lorry operator were among those hospitalized following the crash. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu noted his deep sorrow over the tragedy while communicating with regional authorities. The Chief Minister asserted that a full investigation must be conducted to determine the circumstances of the collision. He further ordered that a detailed report be submitted once the inquiry is finalized to prevent future occurrences.
