Zirakpur, March 26: The long-awaited Zirakpur bypass project reached a decisive milestone on Thursday as the NHAI prepared to sign off on construction contracts worth approximately ₹3,342 crore. The development includes a six-lane bypass and an access-controlled spur designed to divert heavy traffic away from the congested urban centers of the Tricity region.

For the 19.2-km bypass project, RKCPL Limited maintained the leading position with a bid of ₹1,380 crore, which sat approximately 3.79 percent above the initial government estimate. Meanwhile, the contract for the 10.3-km spur is expected to go to Ceigall Infra Projects, which offered a bid of ₹603 crore. NHAI representatives affirmed that the selection process was rigorous, with several prominent construction companies participating in the financial bidding rounds held last week.

An NHAI official asserted that these inter-connecting highways are vital for the regional infrastructure network. He maintained that the issuance of the letters of award marks the final administrative step before heavy machinery is deployed to the site. Once operational, the spur will provide a direct link from the Ambala-Chandigarh Expressway to the new bypass, significantly reducing travel time for long-distance commuters and local residents alike.
