No casualties reported; SSP says nature of 'blast-like sound' remains under investigation

Chandigarh, April 1: Chandigarh’s Sector 37 was placed under high alert on Wednesday after a blast-like sound was heard outside the Punjab BJP office, damaging parked vehicles and causing panic among local residents. The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 PM near a stack of sand and a parked scooter, prompting an immediate mobilization of local police and paramilitary forces.

SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, leading the initial assessment at the scene, affirmed that while the impact was concentrated on a two-wheeler, the specific cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed. “It seems a two-wheeler was impacted,” the SSP declared, emphasizing that investigators are awaiting forensic reports to clarify whether the event involved crude materials or a technical malfunction.

Inside the office, party representatives and staff were alerted by the force of the sound. Senior staffer Jaswinder Singh maintained that the vehicle involved was a petrol-run scooter, ruling out an initial theory of a battery explosion. He noted that the blast was strong enough to shatter the glass of several cars parked in the proximity.

Following the event, the Punjab BJP leadership alerted authorities, leading to the deployment of BSF units to assist in cordoning off the busy thoroughfare. Local police stated that they are currently examining CCTV feeds from the Sector 37 market and Law Bhavan to trace any suspicious activity. Further details regarding the investigation are expected as the forensic analysis concludes.
