Chandigarh, August 31: The second consecutive victory of ABVP in the Panjab University Campus Students Council elections is a reflection of changing aspirations among Punjab’s youth, with students increasingly seeking employment, investment, innovation and opportunities, Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu said.
Sandhu congratulated newly elected ABVP president Ankit Bidhan and the entire team, describing the result as an important political message from students of Panjab University.
He said the mandate had demonstrated that the younger generation was looking beyond narratives of disappointment and confrontation and was instead focused on its future.
“The students of Punjab University have given a clear message with their vote—the youth is looking towards the future, wants to move forward and wants to be a part of the journey of a developed India,” Sandhu said.
The BJP leader said the repeat victory was particularly significant because Panjab University was a prominent centre of youth opinion in Punjab and Chandigarh. The electoral verdict from the campus, he said, therefore had relevance beyond student politics.
Sandhu linked the result to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’, saying young people were increasingly identifying their aspirations with economic growth and greater opportunities.
“The youth wants progress, wants employment and new opportunities and wants their active participation in the country’s development journey,” he said.
He said Punjab’s youth wanted to see investment and industry grow in the state so that they could pursue their ambitions without being forced to leave their homeland.
“The new generation of Punjab wants a Punjab where they do not have to leave their homeland to fulfill their dreams,” Sandhu said, adding that the state needed more employment, industry, investment and avenues for young talent.
He described a prosperous and developed Punjab as an integral part of the youth’s vision for a developed India.
Sandhu also credited the ABVP’s previous leadership for helping establish the groundwork for the latest victory. He praised former PU campus council president Gaurav Vir Singh Sohal and his team for working on student-related issues and building a relationship of trust with the student community.
He also lauded young leader Gaurav Attri for guiding the election campaign, saying the team had fought the contest with energy, discipline and unity.
Sandhu said the successive victories showed that the BJP’s dialogue with Punjab’s younger generation was becoming stronger and that development, opportunities and the future were emerging as central themes in that engagement.
He also extended his congratulations to BJP national president Nitin Nabin, saying the outcome had added significance under the leadership of a national president who himself represented the younger generation.
According to Sandhu, the election result had also dispelled several misconceptions about the priorities of today’s youth.
He said the mandate demonstrated that students wanted to be part of India’s growth story while simultaneously seeking a stronger economic future for Punjab.
“A developed and prosperous Punjab with a developed India – this is the hope and aspiration of today’s youth,” Sandhu said.
