CHANDIGARH, August 31 — Reviewing the investigation into election speech allegations involving senior political figures, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes recommended immediate execution of law enforcement procedures against Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Hearing a petition filed by Sarabjot Singh regarding comments against late leader Buta Singh, the statutory body set a five-day timeframe for police authorities to submit an updated action taken report.
During the proceedings, representatives from the state police appeared as the commission examined the timeline of the investigation. The panel maintained that delay in submitting required action reports impacts the administration of justice. In its directions, the commission urged senior officers to complete key investigative milestones expeditiously and submit the final chargesheet while assessing whether procedural lapses occurred during the initial stages of inquiry.
The commission also focused on statutory safeguards for complainants under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Citing ongoing security concerns raised by the petitioner, panel officials declared that law enforcement agencies must guarantee adequate protection to witnesses and complainants. State authorities in both Punjab and Delhi were advised to deploy protective details promptly, enabling the petitioner to pursue legal remedies safely.
