Chandigarh, April 5: A joint operation between the Punjab Counter-Intelligence wing and Chandigarh Police has led to the arrest of the two men seen in social media footage hurling a grenade at the state BJP office. The suspects, caught in Rewari after fleeing Punjab, are believed to be the final link in a logistical chain that moved explosives across the state.
The DGP of Punjab affirmed on Sunday that the operation effectively solves the April 1 case. He stated that the suspects, identified as residents of Morinda, were acting under the direction of a Portugal-based handler. This follows the earlier arrest of five other individuals who allegedly facilitated the movement of the grenade and a Zigana pistol.
“A consignment of hand grenades, arms, and live cartridges changed hands several times before being handed over to the final perpetrators,” Assistant Inspector General Deepak Pareek asserted.
Authorities affirmed that the attack was captured on both CCTV and a 10-second mobile video filmed by the accused. While the footage showed the pin being pulled from a blue grenade, the perpetrators’ faces remained obscured until the latest police breakthrough.
The state special operations cell maintained that the module is part of a wider network operating out of Europe with ties to the ISI. Officials declared that the suspects are currently being interrogated to uncover further links to the banned Babbar Khalsa International and other foreign-based operatives.
