CHANDIGARH, APRIL 11 — Under the ongoing “Gangstran te Vaar” offensive, Punjab Police teams on Saturday targeted over 500 locations across the state to disrupt the logistical support networks of organized criminal groups. The 81st day of the campaign saw 239 arrests, pushing the aggregate total of detainees past the significant milestone of 20,000 since the start of the year.

The operations, conducted under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, focused on mapped and identified associates of prominent gangsters. Officials declared that the state remains committed to its goal of becoming a gangster-free region. During the intensive verification process, 69 individuals were released after thorough questioning, while 72 others faced preventive detention measures.

“Police teams from all the districts in coordination with AGTF Punjab have been conducting special operations,” the state police department affirmed. The weekend’s activities also highlighted the capture of 14 proclaimed offenders who had been evading the law. Authorities stated that the recovery of illegal weapons during these raids further weakens the operational capacity of criminal syndicates.

Parallel to the anti-gangster efforts, the police continued their sustained war against narcotics. On the 406th day of the anti-drug drive, 104 smugglers were taken into custody with nearly two kilograms of heroin recovered. Law enforcement officials maintained that the dual-pronged strategy of targeting both organized crime and drug trafficking is essential for ensuring public safety. The department asserted that the identity of all tipsters sharing information through the 93946-93946 helpline will be kept strictly confidential.
