New Delhi/Shimla, Oct 24: Specialized medical training in Himachal Pradesh is set for a major expansion following the Central Government’s approval of 320 new postgraduate medical seats supported by a ₹415-crore Central grant.
Announcing the sanction, Union Health Minister JP Nadda maintained that the decision would create greater academic opportunities for medical graduates while providing residents access to specialized care closer to home.
The allocation spans six state institutions, led by IGMC Shimla with 91 seats alongside significant additions for facilities in Hamirpur, Tanda, Mandi, Nahan, and Chamba. Nadda asserted that central commitment remains steadfast toward the region’s welfare, while calling upon the state administration to expedite pending administrative procedures to ensure operational readiness for the new academic capacity.
