CHANDIGARH, APRIL 18 — The Punjab Police continued their sustained offensive against organized crime on Saturday, conducting 639 coordinated raids as part of the “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign. Law enforcement officials confirmed that 239 suspects were taken into custody during the 88th day of the operation, which aims to dismantle the infrastructure supporting gangsters throughout the state.
The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the government remains committed to making Punjab a gangster-free state. Official records indicate that the total arrests under this specific campaign have now climbed to 22,144 since January. Police teams declared that the ongoing strategy involves mapping the associates of known criminals and executing raids based on precise intelligence provided by the Anti-Gangster Task Force.
During Saturday’s operations, authorities also focused on long-standing fugitives, capturing six proclaimed offenders. To encourage public participation, the police reminded residents of the anonymous helpline established for reporting criminal activity. Officials affirmed that 116 persons were released after thorough verification, ensuring that the crackdown remains focused on active threats to public safety.
Simultaneously, the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign marked its 413th day with the recovery of 74.5 kg of heroin and a significant amount of drug money. The DGP stated that 89 smugglers were arrested, bringing the total number of drug-related arrests to 59,476 since the start of the anti-drug initiative. Beyond enforcement, the police declared that their rehabilitation programs reached 28 more individuals today, steering them toward recovery and treatment services.
