Chandigarh, April 21: Financial assistance totaling ₹728.48 crore has been disbursed to underprivileged families in Punjab to assist with marriage expenses for daughters. Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the Ashirwad Scheme has benefited 1.43 lakh families, fulfilling a core promise of the current state leadership to uplift needy citizens.

The scheme targets residents who fall below the poverty line. By providing a fixed financial grant for the marriage of up to two daughters, the government seeks to alleviate the debt often incurred by low-income parents during such milestones.

“The Ashirwad Scheme has emerged as a strong support system for economically weaker families by reducing the financial burden during the marriage of daughters,” Dr. Baljit Kaur maintained.

The minister explained that while weddings are joyful occasions, they frequently trigger significant financial anxiety for those with limited means. She declared that the state’s goal is to bring happiness to these households and ensure that every daughter has a secure future.

Administrative efficiency remains a priority for the ministry. Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that she has issued specific directives to staff to ensure the assistance reaches beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

“The Punjab Government remains dedicated to social justice and public welfare and will continue to strengthen people-centric schemes to support poor and needy families,” the minister declared.
