Chandigarh, June 13: A prominent local chemist is in critical condition after two masked attackers unleashed a hail of gunfire outside a Sector 11 pharmacy on Saturday, injuring three people in total.
The incident occurred during peak afternoon hours when the gunmen approached Kumar Medicos and targeted the store proprietor at point-blank range. Sources stated that the business owner absorbed multiple bullets before the shooters escaped, while two other individuals in the immediate vicinity also suffered injuries during the chaotic melee.
Medical teams transferred all three victims to the nearby PGIMER, where the pharmacy owner remains under close medical supervision due to the severity of the wounds. Police officials quickly deployed teams across the Sector 11 commercial district to secure the perimeter and interview eyewitnesses, though formal statements regarding the identity of the suspects remain pending.
The establishment has faced security issues in the past, with records indicating a history of anonymous extortion and intimidation attempts against the management.
“The family has been dealing with security threats for quite some time,” an adjacent business operator declared after the incident. “A similar scare occurred nearly nine years ago when gunmen fired warning shots into the air right outside the premises.”
