Chandigarh, Oct 8: Municipal tenants operating small businesses in Punjab will now have the opportunity to buy their rented spaces under the newly launched ‘Meri Dukan Mere Ban’ program.
Announcing the welfare measure, Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that the initiative applies to civic body properties up to 50 square yards across 116 urban areas. Under the policy framework, commercial tenants with at least 12 years of continuous operation can secure legal titles upon paying designated government fees linked to local collector rates.
The decision addresses long-standing challenges facing local government administration, where numerous municipal properties remained entangled in litigation or generated irregular rental returns. Officials maintained that financial slabs based on income levels have been established to ensure broad accessibility for eligible small business owners throughout Punjab.
