AAP State Chief Denounces BJP Poll Tactics

Minister Aman Arora demands respect for election norms and uniform personnel

CHANDIGARH, MAY 28 — Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora has condemned the actions of federal minister Ravneet Singh Bittu during the state’s civic polls, asserting that the behavior of national ruling party leaders on the streets undermined democratic institutions.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, the newly appointed AAP state president stated that the BJP is establishing a recurring pattern of election manipulation, drawing parallels to past political friction in West Bengal. He maintained that the events in Sangrur and Dhuri showed a complete disregard for constitutional boundaries.

According to Arora, the confrontation began when local police personnel attempted to clear the constituency of non-resident political workers following the legal end of election campaigning. He noted that Bittu intervened to stop the lawful removal of BJP leader Onkar Singh, acting as though his federal status placed him above administrative regulations.

“The BJP once again resorted to intimidation, misuse of power and goondaism during the polling process,” Arora stated.

The minister declared that the verbal abuse directed at the police force was particularly shameful given the department’s role in maintaining peace and countering historical security threats. He stated that the local administration will not tolerate the degradation of officers based on caste, religion, or gender.

Addressing the legislative and moral aspects of the confrontation, Arora pointed out that Bittu’s family had previously benefited from the state police system. He asserted that the minister’s brother was appointed as a DSP under relaxed criteria during Captain Amarinder Singh’s tenure, making Bittu’s current hostility toward uniformed officers highly hypocritical.

Arora affirmed that the state government and the public remain united in support of local law enforcement bodies, concluding that legal protocols must apply equally to all citizens regardless of their political designations.
