While 10 individuals have been rescued and hospitalized so far, authorities fear a significant number of workers remain pinned beneath dense layers of iron and concrete.
Specialized teams are navigating a hazardous field of twisted metal and shattered reinforced cement concrete to reach those calling out from beneath the debris. Representatives from urban development and the local municipal corporation have arrived at the location to oversee the mobilization of heavy equipment.
“The roof of the warehouse located on the Transport Depot Road near Brace Bridge in the Taratala area collapsed around noon,” a Kolkata Police official declared. The officer maintained that a substantial workforce was active on the premises when the roof buckled during casting operations.
Local residents at the scene asserted that illegal construction practices have been a persistent issue throughout the neighborhood for an extended period. These claims matched preliminary assessments from fire and emergency services personnel regarding the quality of the building materials.
The rescue zone remains highly active as engineers and military personnel coordinate efforts to stabilize the remaining framework. Specialized crews are relying on precise sound location and drilling to pierce through the thick blockages.
“Our officers have reached the spot,” a senior administrative representative stated, assuring the public that every available resource is being utilized. Government officials declared that a thorough investigation into structural permissions and material compliance will commence immediately after the site is cleared.
