Gurugram/Chandigarh, June 24: A contractual cyber specialist with a federal agency and his associate have been taken into custody by the Gurugram Police for allegedly forging a forensic evaluation of a viral video centering on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The police operation was initiated following a complaint detailing how the duo generated and circulated the unauthorized report.
The investigation has uncovered potential financial motives behind the creation of the document. Investigators noted that the accused individuals pointed toward a financial transaction of ₹10 lakh, which they claimed was tied to individuals operating within regional administrative circles.
“One suspect has been identified as Ankit, a cyber-expert working with the National Investigation Agency on a contractual basis, while the other is named Arun,” ACP Crime Naveen Sharma announced. The senior officer declared that the ongoing probe would systematically validate all statements against technical evidence.
The dispute stems from a video that circulated widely on digital platforms, leading to administrative and religious reviews. The Akal Takht had previously called for measures concerning the Chief Minister while the facts surrounding the potential forgery of the clip were being established by the appropriate quarters.
Chief Minister Mann has consistently maintained his innocence, reassuring the public that the video is entirely external to his actions. He asserted that a frame-by-frame analysis of over a thousand segments of the media proved that he was not the person featured in the recording.
“The culprits will be found and punished, no matter how well they hide themselves,” Mann stated, reiterating that the person visible in the frames is simply a lookalike actor. The Chief Minister affirmed that top law enforcement officials are actively working to uncover the full scope of the orchestration.
