New Delhi, June 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received an official invitation from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to participate in the final rites of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The state ceremonies, which are expected to gather leaders from across the region, will span several days across major cultural and political centers in Iran.
The programmatic timeline released by officials indicates that public observances will be held in Tehran and Qom between July 5 and July 7. Following these events, the final committal proceedings are scheduled to conclude in Mashhad on July 9.
“The funeral ceremonies will be held from July 5 to 9,” an official familiar with the diplomatic correspondence affirmed. The source maintained that invitations have been extended to several global partners to witness the transition and pay their respects.
The developments follow the passing of the long-serving leader on February 28 amid escalating regional tensions and military actions in the capital. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs is evaluating the high-level engagement, balancing bilateral ties and protocol before finalizing its response.
