Punjab Reverses Brain Drain with Public Sector Employment

Healthcare system strengthened as 523 new personnel join workforce

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, June 17: The Punjab Government has achieved a milestone of 67,563 merit-based public appointments within a four-year span, culminating in the induction of 523 health professionals during an official ceremony in Mohali. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann presented the appointment letters to the youth, stating that the administration has successfully dismantled the corrupt frameworks where public jobs were previously accessible only to wealthy individuals. The new recruitment strategy relies strictly on competitive eligibility, successfully restoring institutional trust among ordinary families.

The fresh inductions into the Health and Family Welfare Department include 178 medical officers, 99 staff nurses, and various specialized teaching faculty and support staff. This workforce expansion directly complements the state’s universal healthcare vision, which includes comprehensive cashless coverage for over 2,300 medical procedures at 900 empaneled hospitals across Punjab and Chandigarh.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann maintained that transparent recruitment has fundamentally altered the expectations and career trajectories of the younger generation. “It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that more than 67,500 government jobs have been provided to youth across the state,” the Chief Minister asserted. “The era of cash payments and favouritism in recruitments has ended and appointments are now being made solely on the basis of merit and eligibility.”

The ongoing administrative reforms extend to the education sector with the creation of specialized Schools of Eminence, which have contributed to rising student success rates in national competitive examinations like JEE and NEET. Additionally, the state has preserved the complete sanctity of its recruitment tests, avoiding the logistical disruptions and security interventions seen in central testing agencies.

The Chief Minister declared that public resources are being managed responsibly to optimize community benefits and safeguard public assets. “Today, more than 90% households in Punjab are getting free power,” the Chief Minister affirmed. “Our farmers are receiving daytime electricity, which has significantly benefited agriculture. At a time when valuable public assets elsewhere are being handed over to a select few, Punjab has created history by purchasing a private thermal power plant. Our Government is judiciously utilising every single penny of the state exchequer for public welfare.”

This governance model focuses heavily on grassroots feedback, utilizing direct public interactions to shape anti-drug initiatives and infrastructure projects. The event concluded with an advisory to the new health officials to prioritize the needs of underprivileged citizens, ensuring that the benefits of state welfare reach all segments of society.
