Singh Blocks Comments Amid Digital Backlash

Parliamentarian exchanges sharp remarks with critics over legislative performance and state funds

CHANDIGARH, MAY 20 — Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh modified the security settings on his social media accounts Thursday to block public replies following an intense political debate regarding his recent transition from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP.

The decision to limit interactive comments on the X platform came after critics targeted the veteran athlete on multiple fronts, including inflation rates, national educational entrance controversies, and regional fiscal disputes between the state and central governments. The online dispute intensified after Singh publicly questioned current law enforcement efficiency in Punjab, drawing sharp rebuttals from activists aligned with the state’s ruling administration.

Party organizers noted that the online friction mirrors real-world political tensions that recently led to localized demonstrations outside the lawmaker’s domestic estate.

“Check how many concerns I have raised in Rajya Sabha for Punjab. It’s on record,” Singh asserted to counter allegations that he had neglected his parliamentary duties. “God gave me enough by playing cricket so that I can own the facilities.”

The former cricketer redirected political scrutiny toward the state’s current leadership, maintaining that local governance resources were being mismanaged.

“Ask your leader to stop using Punjab ministers to make money for your leader,” Singh stated in a defensive post before locking the comments section to non-followers. “And stop fooling Punjabis with false promises.”

The legislator maintained that his sudden party switch would not diminish his constitutional responsibility to advocate for the financial interests of Punjab, including the recovery of outstanding central infrastructure allocations.

BJP representatives stated that the defensive social media modifications were necessary to maintain a productive communication channel as Singh transitions into his new organizational responsibilities within the state’s opposition framework.
