India Activates Airport Ebola Screening

Ministry deploys emergency protocols for inbound transit after global health alert

NEW DELHI, MAY 21 — The Airport Health Organisation has deployed emergency monitoring stations across major international arrival hubs to screen passengers coming from Ebola-affected regions, implementing a protective barrier against external viral introduction.

The administrative rollout, orchestrated by the Directorate General of Health Services, mandates that any traveler showing signs of infection within three weeks of arrival must seek isolated medical attention. The stepped-up vigilance responds to the World Health Organization’s recent classification of the central African outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Federal administrators maintained that while the domestic threat level remains minimal, pre-emptive tracking remains essential to isolate potential infections before they enter urban communities.

“The government of India has proactively strengthened surveillance and preparedness measures across the country as an abundant precaution,” an official health source stated following a national logistical review.

The state framework focuses heavily on arrivals with travel history involving South Sudan, Uganda, or the Democratic Republic of Congo. Specialized health desks have been positioned ahead of terminal immigration checkpoints to intercept symptomatic passengers displaying sore throats, severe headaches, or gastrointestinal distress.

“Detailed Standard Operating Procedures covering pre-arrival and post-arrival screening, quarantine protocols, case management, referral mechanisms and laboratory testing have already been shared with all states,” the ministry stated, confirming that regional clinics are prepared to execute immediate triage.

Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava directed state health bureaus to ensure absolute readiness at specialized containment facilities. The central administration confirmed that all relevant ministries have synchronized their tracking databases with airport immigration desks to trace passenger manifests from high-risk sectors effectively.
