CHANDIGARH, July 30 — In a concerted push to enhance family nutrition across the region, Punjab’s flagship MERI RASOI initiative has successfully delivered essential food packages to over 33.86 lakh eligible beneficiaries. The initiative operates on a mission mode through coordinated efforts between Markfed and the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to ensure last-mile delivery and prevent duplication.
Significant progress has been reported across multiple regions, including Gurdaspur with 2.09 lakh kits, Jalandhar with 1.95 lakh kits, and Bathinda with 1.94 lakh kits delivered to date. Other districts, including Sangrur, Fazilka, and Hoshiarpur, have each registered coverage exceeding 1.6 lakh households.
“By adding these ration kits to the existing NFSA wheat distribution, both hunger and nutrition issues are being addressed,” maintained department officials overseeing the monitoring framework.
Administrative teams at the district level continue to supervise distribution centers to ensure smooth supply chains. Officials affirmed that the scheme demonstrates the government’s resolve to safeguard household nutritional needs and ensure no eligible family is left without basic sustenance.
