Chandigarh, July 4: Toward public safety, a state-wide inspection and awareness drive named ‘Shudh Dudh, Tandarust Punjab’ has been rolled out to combat milk adulteration. The project aims to empower citizens by offering free, immediate testing facilities at regional administrative hubs and through specialized mobile units.
The Dairy Development Department has successfully examined 6,000 samples through 160 rural and urban camps established since April 1. In cooperation with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, the state has deployed 5,500 portable adulteration kits capable of instantly verifying levels of fat, protein, and harmful chemical additives.
The initiative bridges the gap between field monitoring and consumer safety by utilizing technology that provides instant readouts on the ground. A specialized toll-free helpline number 1800-180-2202 has been instituted to facilitate seamless communication between the public and enforcement teams.
“To tackle this problem, we have deployed mobile labs, distributed testing kits and also started a toll-free number for direct public feedback so that quality can be safeguarded at every stage,” Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian declared while outlining the project.
Departmental heads maintained that routine on-the-spot testing is available to the general public from 9 am to 5 pm at regional headquarters. Principal Secretary Rahul Bhandari affirmed that the administrative structure is fully prepared to provide immediate support, directing citizens to connect with State Nodal Officer Mandeep Singh for assistance with localized testing requests.
