Canine Attack Kills Child In Hoshiarpur

Migrant family loses four-year-old daughter during seasonal harvest work

Hoshiarpur, July 6: An agricultural community in Hoshiarpur is mourning the loss of a four-year-old girl who succumbed to injuries following a stray dog attack on Sunday evening. The child belonged to a migrant family from Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, who had moved to the region for the seasonal paddy transplantation period.

The emergency unfolded near Basi Jalal village, where the parents, Ram Jeevan and Preeti, were working in a farmer’s field. Their daughter, Gungun, was resting under a tree near a tube-well motor when a pack of stray dogs unexpectedly attacked her and pulled her away from the clearing.

Family members and fellow laborers rushed to rescue the toddler after hearing her screams, discovering her with severe wounds. She was initially rushed to the Government Hospital at Tanda, but medical staff quickly referred her to a larger hospital in Hoshiarpur as her condition deteriorated.

“Medical personnel made every possible effort to save her, but she unfortunately passed away during treatment late Sunday night,” asserted a medical supervisor close to the case.

The fatal encounter has drawn attention to public safety dynamics within local farming clusters, where temporary laborers often work late into the evening.

“There is a clear need to address public safety in the area, as the presence of roaming animals has become a genuine worry for families working outdoors,” maintained a community elder.
